Grades & Transcripts

KML's Grading System
Report cards are sent to parents after each quarter (nine weeks). First and third quarter report cards are essentially progress reports. As such, they are not a part of the student's permanent record. Semester final grades are recorded on the permanent record, and these become a part of the student's transcript.

Semester grades (report cards) will not be sent to parents unless their financial account with the school is current. Exceptions are subject to approval by the Administration and the Finance Committee.

Grades are given in all subjects according to the following schedule.

Honor Roll
The KML Student Services Department prepares the honor roll at the end of each quarterly marking period. Students who earn honor roll standing are recognized with a certificate. Honor rolls are determined by the student's grade point average. The GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points by the total credits taken in the grading period.

Honor Rolls
High Honors: 3.60 - 4.00 GPA
Honors: 3.30 - 3.59 GPA

Eligibility
In order to be academically eligible to participate in co-curricular activities, a student must maintain a grade point average of at least 1.6 for each quarter. Additionally, if a student has earned more than one grade of F during a quarter, he is academically ineligible. Students may appeal to regain their eligibility at the midway point of each quarter. Students may successfully appeal to regain their eligibility only once during the course of a school year.

National Honor Society
Juniors and Seniors who have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 through a minimum of 4 semesters are automatically considered for membership in the KML chapter of the National Honor Society. Besides meeting the academic standards, the candidates must also have demonstrated contributions in the areas of service, leadership, and character. A Faculty Council composed of 5 faculty members selects the new NHS members. The selections are based on a 100-point scale; to be selected, a student must average at least 85 points. The induction ceremony is held in the fall of the year.

Transcripts
The transcript is the official academic record for the student's high school career. Credits earned at KML are transferable to other secondary schools-public, private, or parochial-and to institutions of higher learning across the country. Students who need a transcript should contact the Student Services Office. There is no fee charged for transcripts, but no transcript will be sent unless the student's financial obligations to KML have been met.
